Terms for Handyman, Plumbing and Electrical Services
Trusty Handyman is a trading name of JP Property Maintenance Services Ltd (referred to as ‘us’ in these terms).
This page sets out our standard terms of business that will apply between us and any customer (referred to as ‘you’ in these terms). By commissioning work from us you are agreeing to these terms. If you have any queries on these terms or do not accept them in full then please contact us before commissioning or booking an appointment for the work.
Our charges
Our charges are based on the number of hours that a job takes to complete, plus a charge for any materials that we use or parts that we supply for the purposes of the work.
Our current hourly labour charge rates are shown on the Pricing page. These are our standard hourly rates that apply to work carried out between the hours of 8am and 6pm on Monday to Friday but excluding bank holidays. Higher rates apply outside of these times and will be notified to you at the time of booking such an appointment.
We will provide an approximate estimate of the cost of any work before commencing, based on our professional judgement of the likely cost of labour and materials. If it becomes necessary to update our original estimate during the course of the work, e.g. if unforseen circumstances arise, then we will explain this to you as soon as possible and agree how to proceed.
Any direct costs that we incur for materials or parts that we supply for the purposes of the work will be passed on to you, together with a 20% uplift as an allowance for the additional indirect costs that we normally incur in procuring such items. Any materials or parts that we supply will remain our property until we have received full payment of our charges from you.
Any costs that we incur for car parking or road charging will be passed on to you in full.
Payment
Payment is due immediately upon completion of the work. We do not accept cheque payments. We may require staged or deposit payments for larger jobs or where we are to supply significant parts or materials.
If payment is not received within 7 days of completion of the work then interest at the Bank of England base rate plus 5% per annum will be charged. If we are required to take legal action to recover a debt then you will also be charged for any additional costs that we incur.
Cancellation
If you do not provide at least 24 hours notice of the cancellation of an appointment that we have made with you to carry out work then you will be required to pay a cancellation fee equal to the relevant minimum one-hour labour charge.
If the appointment is for a Monday then you will need to let us know by noon on the previous Friday, otherwise the above cancellation fee will be payable.
Other
Due to waste disposal regulations, we cannot dispose of any waste that is associated with our work. If you do not wish to arrange disposal yourself then we can arrange it for you, in which case the cost of this will be added to our charges.
